It takes long time for mesothelioma to occur, might be 40 years in most of the times. Most of the patients having mesothelioma are unaware of the presence of disease until very late. The reason of this disastrous fact is the lake of symptoms it produces. Most patients present late during the course of disease when it has already spread to distant organs. Such patients are difficult to treat by any means and most of treatment is palliative. Palliation means relieve of symptoms without treating the actual disease. It is a cruel fact to know as most patients presenting in this way are destined to death sooner or later. The family members get worried when they come to know the situation. Other methods of treatment of mesothelioma include chemotherapy in which certain cancer killing drugs are injected thereby destroying the cells. Radiotherapy is yet another method in which specific high energy radiations are used to kill the cancer cells avoiding damage to the normal cells.

Mesothelioma is diagnosed by the combination of different investigations but the most important test in computed tomography of the chest directly visualizing the nodules of tumour. The ultimate diagnostic modality is biopsy of tissue in which a small piece of tissue is taken and seen under the microscope. Early diagnosis warrants successful treatment most of the times. Most of patients having mesothelioma are old in the age of 60 to 70 years. Males are more affected as the disease is occupational. There are certain legal issues in the case of mesothelioma so if any patient is diagnosed with mesothelioma, he or she should consult a qualified lawyer as soon as possible in order to get the compensation or reward for health loss.
